Your next career opportunity

This two year Post-Doctoral Research Fellow position will support a research project developing new Bayesian methodology for the estimation of multi-module statistical and econometric models, along with their application to impactful problems.

The Fellow will extend their existing expertise in Bayesian methodology to large statistical and econometric models under the guidance of the project investigators, who are senior researchers in the field. On the methodology front, this will involve developing new Bayesian simulation and variational inference techniques for computing generalized Bayes posteriors. On the modelling side, this will involve specifying multi-module econometric models for business and economic data, as well as copula models for high dimensional multivariate data.

The Fellow will be required to have strong scientific programming skills, as they will take responsibility for the careful implementation in one or more programming languages such as Python and Matlab. They will also undertake substantial empirical work by applying the new methodology to solve important problems drawn from business, economics and elsewhere. It is expected that the successful candidate will coauthor a number of research papers for publication, as well disseminating research findings through workshops, seminars and publicly available code.

Your responsibilities will include:

* Developing and applying innovative Bayesian simulation and variational inference methods to complex multi-module statistical and econometric models.

* Implementing new methodologies in contemporary programming languages such as Python and Matlab, and undertaking detailed empirical analyses with rigorous benchmarking.

* Collaborating effectively with project investigators across multiple universities to advance research objectives and contribute to scholarly publications.

* Disseminating research findings through workshops, masterclasses, and the creation of accessible web-based resources, while fulfilling additional faculty responsibilities as required.

You may be a great fit if:

You possess a strong capacity for independent thought and problem-solving, demonstrating meticulous attention to detail and a disciplined approach to maintaining accurate research records. You communicate your ideas clearly and persuasively, adapting your style to diverse academic audiences. As an effective collaborator, you engage constructively within teams, contributing positively to a collegial and dynamic research environment. Your enthusiasm for continual learning will enable you to navigate the research with resilience and a commitment to continuous professional development.

You will also:

* Hold a PhD or be near completion in econometrics, statistics, or a related discipline.

* Demonstrate strong knowledge of Bayesian inference methods and their practical implementation.

* Possess advanced scientific programming skills in one or more contemporary languages, such as Python or Matlab.

* Exhibit proven ability to work independently and collaboratively while maintaining rigorous research documentation.
