Position Summary
The Finance Manager will oversee the financial and accounting operations of the Australian subsidiary, ensuring compliance with Australian laws and regulations. This role is hands-on, requiring active involvement in financial and accounting tasks, in addition to management responsibilities. This role also involves providing financial and tax management for its invested businesses, offering guidance and hands-on support when necessary. The Finance Manager will work closely with an external accounting firm to ensure smooth financial operations and compliance. Additionally, this role involves liaising with the Japanese parent company to provide required reports and align with the group's strategic direction. A part-time accounting staff member will assist in daily operations. The role also includes administrative, HR, and labor-related responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
1. Financial and Accounting Management
1. Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and coordinate audits.
2. Manage cash flow and develop financial plans.
3. Prepare budgets and monitor budget vs. actual performance.
4. Handle tax filings (e.g., GST, corporate tax) and ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
2. Coordination with Japanese Parent Company
1. Prepare financial reports in line with the parent company's reporting requirements.
2. Understand and support the implementation of group management strategies.
3. Maintain effective communication in both Japanese and English.
3. Management of Invested Businesses
1. Oversee and supervise financial and tax operations of invested businesses or projects.
2. Provide appropriate advice to the management of these businesses as needed.
3. Collaborate with personnel in invested companies to address and execute financial or tax related tasks.
4. Team Management
1. Manage and mentor one accounting staff member.
2. Oversee work progress and improve operational efficiency.
5. Compliance and Internal Controls
1. Ensure adherence to Australian laws and accounting standards.
2. Develop and implement effective internal control processes.
6. Support for Management
1. Provide financial data and insights to assist executive decision-making.
2. Conduct analysis and offer strategic proposals.
7. Administrative and HR Functions
1. Support general administrative tasks, including office management.
2. Oversee HR-related duties such as payroll coordination, employee records, and compliance with local labor laws.
Required Skills and Experience
1. At least 5 years of practical experience in accounting and taxation in Australia.
2. Business-level proficiency in English and Japanese (both written and spoken).
3. Experience working with Japanese companies, especially in reporting to a parent company, is preferred.
4. Experience in managing financial operations of invested businesses or projects is advantageous.
5. CPA or CA qualification (or equivalent) is highly desirable.
6. Proven team management experience (managing at least one subordinate).
7. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
8. Familiarity with general administrative and HR processes is a plus.
