Primary objective
Provide high level strategic leadership and advice at both the regional and systemic level on policy, management and administration
and coordinate services to support the implementation of strategic initiatives that support improved outcomes for all students.
Context statement
School Operations provides operational advice and services to government schools, tailored to their needs, and focused on
supporting their improvement agenda. School Operations ensures the implementation of NT and Commonwealth Government
policies and department strategic priorities in NT Government schools. This position reports to the Senior Director School
Operations and works in partnership with Senior Director Education Big Rivers.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Ensure the effective management of the regional team including the strategic leadership and management of regional physical,
financial and human resources.
2. Broker services to support school improvement from across divisions within the agency and from the Department's One NTG
partners.
3. Facilitate the implementation of continuous improvement approaches within School Operations and across the region to
ensure effective management of schools, including the provision of operational support and advice to principals.
4. Develop and maintain effective collaborative partnerships and liaise and negotiate with other agencies and community
organisations over a broad range of educational policy issues.
5. Represent the department on high level interagency committees and working groups.
6. Other duties as delegated by line management.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Highly developed communication, negotiation, consultation, and conflict resolution skills to operate effectively in a politically
sensitive environment, listen to and influence diverse groups and establish productive networks with a range of stakeholders.
2. Highly developed fiscal and human resource management skills with the proven ability to lead and influence others to facilitate
organisational or school improvement and achieve outcomes in a climate of significant change and complexity.
3. Demonstrated skill in writing high level correspondence including policies, guidelines, briefings and submissions.
4. Sound understanding of emerging national issues in the education sector and their relevance and application to the Territory
situation and a proven ability to interpret relevant legislation and apply this interpretation in dealing with a range of complex
matters.
1. Demonstrated knowledge, application and implementation of system policies and procedures and the ability to provide expert
coaching, mentoring to principals, school leadership teams and school staff.
Desirable
1. Demonstrated successful management and leadership in a school or education setting.
2. Relevant tertiary and post graduate qualifications.
3. Sound understanding of the Education Act, Public Sector Employment and Management Act and Financial Management Act.
