About The Team
Our Operations team works with a diverse customer base to support several nationally significant supply chains. With management responsibility spanning across five states, our 8,500km rail network is used to transport bulk products, passenger and general freight, including steel and a vast array of consumer items such as groceries, electrical goods and other items for both import and export markets.
About The Opportunity
As the Signal Design Lead, you will manage a program of designs that will be constructed as part of ARTC’s annual program of maintenance and upgrade works for signalling assets in the Hunter Valley.
Key Responsibilities
- Liaise with signal maintenance and strategy engineers to understand the scope requirements and intent of projects requiring design.
- Manage the process of progressively assessing and refining project scopes and budgets in accordance with internal stakeholder requirements, staged budget submission timing, overall asset strategies, delivery and cost constraints.
- Validate scope including review of drawings, condition data, ARTC and Australian Standards and site inspections.
- Progress certain projects through the design process, including preparation of scope documents suitable for competitive tendering with external design consultants, tender evaluation, engagement, design review and management of program and costs.
- Assess and seek advice on constructability of designs in an operational rail workplace to align designs with this requirement.
- Ensure all assigned projects provide sustainable and commercially viable asset solutions and are developed to a stage that the delivery team can progress through construction.
- Assist with resolution of design queries from projects during construction.
- Provide technical advice, reports, design support and assistance with signalling issues for track, civil and structures projects, incident investigations, type approvals and third party works.
What do we want from you?
To ensure success in this position, applicants will be able to demonstrate:
- Tertiary qualifications (Degree or Graduate / Advanced Diploma in railway signal engineering) or equivalent industry qualifications, or be actively working toward this qualification and have significant railway signalling experience.
- Demonstrated rail signal engineering experience in maintenance, construction or design.
- Developed negotiation, analytical, problem resolution, interpersonal and communication skills.
Desirable Selection Criteria
- A current RIW (or be eligible) as Signal Designer or Engineer.
- Experience as a design engineer or design reviews on rail signal projects.
- Experience with cost estimating processes.
- Understanding of Heavy Haul rail environment.
- Experience with Ellipse or similar asset management software.
- Document management process and systems eg Aconex.
