Employment Type: Permanent Full/Part Time or Casual, up to 38 hours per week
Location: Campbelltown and Camden Hospitals
Position Classification: Administration Officer Level 3/4/5 & Medical Records Administrator
Remuneration: Per Classification (see below)
Administration Officer Level 3/4/5: $34.46 - $39.26 per hour
Medical Records Administrator: $35.64 - $46.10 per hour

About The Opportunity
As a Clinical Coder, you will be responsible for the accurate and timely coding of inpatient episodes of care using ICD-10-AM classification, ensuring alignment with the Australian Coding Standards and SWSLHD policies. You'll play a key role in supporting our mission to deliver safe, high-quality, and personalised care across our communities.

Your work will contribute to vital health funding mechanisms and support informed clinical and management decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

- Analyse clinical documentation and abstract relevant clinical and demographic data.
- Assign codes using the ICD-10-AM classification system and Solventum Codefinder
- Maintain coding accuracy and output in line with NSW Ministry of Health timeframes.
- Participate in audits and quality improvement activities.
- Stay up-to-date with coding standards, policies, and continuous education.

What We're Looking For

- Qualifications in clinical coding e.g completion of a recognised coding course or relevant degree in Health Information Management .
- Previous/current work experience in clinical coding preferred or a strong aptitude, passion and eagerness to be trained as an entry level coder.
- Strong understanding of anatomy, disease processes, and medical terminology.
- Knowledge of DRGs, Casemix, and episode funding applications.
- High attention to detail, excellent time management, and ability to meet throughput targets.
- Commitment to ethical coding and quality documentation practices.

What You'll Be Doing
The Clinical Coder is responsible for the accurate and timely coding of inpatient episodes of care, in accordance with the Australian coding standards and other relevant documents. Other responsibilities include maintaining ethical coding practice and participating in quality activities.

Campbelltown Hospital, located in the heart of the Macarthur region, is a leading tertiary hospital within the South Western Sydney Local Health District. This progressive hospital is dedicated to providing exceptional patient care to the local community and beyond.

Campbelltown Hospital offers a wide range of services, including cardiology, maternity, palliative care, respiratory medicine, emergency medicine, and aged-care services. The hospital also features specialised Mental Health and Cancer facilities, ensuring comprehensive care and support for patients.

How to Apply

- Completion of a recognised ICD-10-AM coding course or relevant Tertiary Qualifications in Health Information Management (with a clinical coding component).

- You will be required to meet deadlines in this position. How would you ensure that these deadlines are met?
- What is your understanding of a DRG (Diagnosis Related Group) and how this relates to clinical coding?
- What PAS (Patient administration systems) have you used or are familiar with?
