The Role
As a key member of the process technical team, this role focuses on developing and applying expertise to support operations and quality teams in achieving performance excellence and maximizing shareholder value.
The Process Engineer will report to the Senior Process Engineer in the Process Technology and Innovation department to drive the continuous improvement of plant processes, technologies, and control systems, ensuring operational efficiency, product quality, and innovation.
This is a Permanent Full-time position based at our Kwinana Refinery
Key Responsibilities
• Undertake all work in a safe and efficient manner, in accordance with statutory requirements and Covalent policies & procedures.
• Comply with all health and safety, environmental and regulatory policies.
Plant Design Review
o Evaluate the Lithium Hydroxide Refinery plant design to ensure production quality and suitability for lithium refinery feed, focusing on contaminant removal, lithium grade, and physical properties.
Design Validation and Optimization:
o Identify underlying design assumptions and validate them against existing test work data; develop plans to address gaps or required changes.
o Identify design optimization opportunities and create plans to quantify and support their implementation.
Process Improvement and Innovation:
o Oversee improvement projects aimed at enhancing technical knowledge and plant performance.
o Prepare and present business cases for improvement opportunities, securing senior management approval and budgets.
o Manage small-scale engineering projects, coordinating with engineering firms and vendors to ensure successful implementation.
Data Analysis and Simulation:
o Conduct thorough reviews of mass balances, consumption factors, and equipment sizing.
o Deliver weekly project status updates to stakeholders.
Cross-Functional Coordination:
o Collaborate with the Environmental Department to ensure alignment with regulatory and environmental requirements.
o Coordinate technical requirements and ensure compliance in projects involving engineering firms and internal teams.
Role Requirements
• Chemical Engineering and/ or equivalent qualification
• Drivers licence
• 2 years' experience in projects related to mineral processing or refining. Experience in refining is preferred.
