Primary objective

Provide supervision to a team of Youth Support Officers, including development of rosters in order to provide care, supervision and support to

young people with complex behaviours who have been ordered to reside at the bail facility. You will be coordinating a team and liaising with

various program providers to help the young person continue education, recognise the impact of their offending behaviour, make restitution, learn

new skills and successfully reintegrate into the community.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Provide supervision and develop a roster to coordinate a team of Youth Support Officers lead by Shift Leads who provide care and support to

youths residing within the bail facility.

2. Arrange the coordination and contribute towards, the daily and weekly planning of activities for youth in Bail Accommodation.

1. Ensure Officers are actively engaging and leading the young people in the bail facility in a wide range of activities including, job readiness

programs, work programs such as house and garden maintenance and overnight or multi-day camping activities.

1. Support Officers in applying protocols and procedures in the care and supervision of young people as prescribed, taking a proactive approach

in de-escalation and harm mitigation strategies, reporting incidents to prevent harm and enhance planned group and individual needs.

5. Act as a mentor and guide, supporting the Officers who encourage the youth to participate in programs to meet treatment and care plan

requirements, engaging positively and professionally with internal and external stakeholders and program providers.

6. Ensure feedback and monitoring processes are followed to ensure case management and other contract requirements can be met.

7. Support high quality service provision and participate in supervision, performance management and continuing training and professional

development.

8. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken to ensure high

quality, safe services and workplaces.

9. Adopt a principled approach and always adheres to the Corrections values and Code of Conduct and demonstrate exemplary behaviour

reflective of the department's values and Code of Conduct.

10. Participate in a 24 hour/7 days per week roster program and actively take part in rostered activities such as overnight camping.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Demonstrated experience in a similar or comparative coordination or supervisory position, including the development of a roster and

scheduling of staff over multiple shifts.

2. Ability to work with vulnerable young people with highly complex behaviours including issues with alcohol and drug use, poverty, cultural

identity, mental health and disability.

3. An understanding of the supervision requirements of staff and young people, including treatment and practice protocols and procedures in

use within the team, and when to escalate issues.

4. Knowledge of or ability to learn about child and adolescent development models and theories including trauma informed practice and

knowledge of de-escalation and conflict resolution techniques.

5. Have well-developed teamwork collaborative skills and the ability to work autonomously and be consultative with youth and other officers.

1. Hold completed MAYBO (conflict management and physical intervention) training certificate or possess the ability and willingness to undertake

this training prior to commencement in the role.

7. Preparedness to undertake and successfully complete 4WD training for travel by unsealed road into regional communities and ability to

undertake travel including overnight stays as necessary.

1. Current C class driver's licence.

Desirable

1. Senior First Aid and Advanced Resuscitation or ability to acquire.

2. Previous experience working with staff and youth in a youth supported accommodation environment or similar.
