About the role:
The Family Support Worker will work alongside carer families in their homes to provide regular in-home, practical, and emotional support. They will assist carers to attend appointments and access community groups and activities. The role includes providing support after school and in the evenings, as well as continual assessment in consultation with case workers. The Family Support Worker reports to the Service Case Manager.
The programs support parents and family carers in the Pilbara region with children in their care to improve safety and community connection.
The main focus is to provide high-support services based on a thorough understanding of the child and supporting carers. A case plan is developed for each family, and the role involves working closely with MacKillop case managers.
There are 2 ongoing Full-Time positions based in Karratha, WA, within the Intensive Family Support/Family Care Support Services Program, reporting to the Coordinator Pilbara Services.
Key Selection Criteria:
* Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture and values, and awareness of issues faced by Aboriginal children and families.
* Relevant qualification and/or experience in human services or related disciplines.
* Ability to work as part of a team.
* Understanding of vulnerable children, trauma, attachment, and child development.
* Commitment to collaborative work and liaising with agencies and the community.
* Understanding of child protection and out-of-home care systems.
