About the role

The Birth Family Advocacy Support Service (BFASS) provides information and advocacy support to families who have come into contact with the justice system as a result of child protection issues.

The BFASS - Lead is responsible for the oversight and service delivery of the advocacy support service. This service supports Birth Families with a diverse range of cultural backgrounds where there are children and young people at risk of or who have entered the care system. Elements of the role include direct client support, stakeholder engagement, volunteer management, strategic planning, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting.

What you will bring

* Sound technical knowledge and expertise in providing professional supervision and direction to staff engaged in casework service delivery.
* Interpersonal skills required to communicate effectively both verbally and written.
* Highly developed advocacy, problem solving skills, including an ability to communicate in a confident, assertive, and non-aggressive manner with stakeholders of varying cultural backgrounds.
* High level of technical knowledge and expertise of child protection law and practice, local policies and procedure.
* Capacity to work within a strengths-based approach and apply trauma informed care principles.
* Sound analytical skills and demonstrated ability to assess, evaluate and solve problems and exercise initiative and judgment where practices and procedures are not clearly defined.
* Previous experience managing employees and volunteers.
* Relevant tertiary qualifications with relevant equivalent experience, in Community Services, Social Welfare, or similar. Or less formal qualifications with specialised skills in relevant field.

* Current Australian Drivers Licence

Further information

This role is covered by the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Award - Level 5. Competitive salary + superannuation + access to salary packaging.
