About the Role
The Casual Relief Teacher (CRT) is a qualified, VIT‑registered teacher, employed on a casual basis to temporarily cover the absences among the College's teaching team. The main objective of the role is uninterrupted learning. This requires the smooth running of lessons and maintaining order in classrooms so that curricular continuity is upheld. The CRT may have several days' notice, but often is required to be available at very short notice.
We are looking for candidates to join our pool with the following specialisations:
* Mathematics and Science (all levels including Chemistry, Biology, Physics) Strong Need
* Languages (Japanese)
Responsibilities
* Actively create a classroom atmosphere and tone that matches Santa Maria College culture and policies.
* Teach by providing a safe and stimulating learning environment.
* Deliver the curriculum material provided by the absent teacher.
* Use teaching methods and manners supportive of the Santa Maria College culture.
* Adhere to the VIT Code of Conduct and Code of Ethics.
* Proactively complete the administrative requirements for responsible supervision of students, including but not limited to roll marking, mandatory reporting, and leaving student notes on SIMON.
* Respond professionally to the differing learning needs and strengths of all students, including students with special needs.
* Work collegially with other teachers and respond intelligently and professionally to challenges or crises.
* Supervise students on yard duty if deemed necessary.
* Accompany students on excursions or events if necessary.
* Aide in helping all students who need extensions in academic, social, or emotional development.
* Work in all settings and undertake all responsibilities for the supervision and teaching of students, including non‑classroom settings, maintaining neatness in school spaces, assisting with first aid when required, and ensuring students conform to college protocols.
About You
* Available at short notice.
* Open to contract work which includes prep & planning (with release time).
* Relevant teaching qualification.
* Current Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) registration.
* Demonstrated ability to establish positive and effective working relationships with staff and students.
* Professional behaviour when engaging with children.
* Strong organisational and time‑management skills.
* Uphold confidentiality and discretion.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Strong understanding of the developmental needs of adolescents and emerging young adults.
* Proficiency in the use of ICT for communication and record keeping.
* First aid (desirable).
* Understanding of child safety and health & safety requirements.
* Maintain a positive environment respectful of all present and fostering student learning and motivation.
