Merit List or Pool Usage

Applicants suitable for the role but not offered the current vacancy may be placed in a merit list or pool. With the applicant's consent, results may be shared with other Australian Public Service (APS) agencies for similar roles. Applicants may be offered future roles without reapplying. A merit list or pool may be used for up to 18 months and can fill other vacancies in Canberra.

Scientific Facilities Officer

Location: Canberra ACT

The Science and Australian National Botanic Gardens Branch leads science and conservation planning and policy for Parks Australia, conducting research in conservation and biodiversity management. We engage in diverse research partnerships, incorporate First Nations knowledge, and embed science into decision-making at all levels.

* Strategic science planning and research partnership development.
* Leading cross-cutting research supporting Parks Australia, including climate change adaptation and biodiversity.
* Providing scientific support for policies and park management plans.
* Managing the Australian National Botanic Gardens and its collections.
* Applying new technologies and data analytics for science outcomes.
* Research capacity building and education facilitation.
* Conserving native plants through systematics research, seed banking, and ex situ conservation.

The newly established Conservation Science section includes the National Seed Bank, focusing on conservation research.


Key Duties

* Manage scientific assets and facilities at ANBG.
* Support WHS procedures, safety checks, and record-keeping.
* Build positive relationships across teams.
* Manage scientific and laboratory facilities to ensure safety and effectiveness.

* Citizenship: Australian citizenship required.
* Pre-employment checks: includes police check, referee checks, medical assessment, qualification validation, and probation.


Additional Requirements

* Current Apply First Aid Certificate or ability to obtain one.
* Valid Australian driver's license.
* Occasional out-of-hours and weekend work may be required.
* Participation in after-hours emergency monitoring.
* Compliance with WHS policies and PPE use.
