About Us
The Sunraysia Mallee Ethnic Communities Council (SMECC) is a proud, profit-for-purpose organisation that has supported migrants, refugees, and multicultural communities in regional Victoria for over 45 years.
With offices in Mildura, Robinvale, and Swan Hill, SMECC offers essential wrap-around support services.
We offer capacity and capability building services for families through our Early Childhood programs, youth services, adult education, and emergency food relief.
Governed by a diverse Board of Directors, SMECC is committed to creating an inclusive, empowered, and harmonious society.
About the Role
We are seeking passionate individuals to join our Board as Volunteer General Board Members .
This is a unique opportunity to shape the strategic direction of a well-established community organisation, advocate for social justice, and ensure SMECC continues to deliver meaningful impact.
As a Board Member, you will:
Actively participate in board meetings including sub-committees Oversee financial and legal compliance Support advocacy, stakeholder engagement, and fundraising Ensure SMECC's work aligns with its mission, values, and community needs Positively represent SMECC within the community and sector What You'll Bring
Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and SMECC's mission
Strong communication, collaboration, and critical thinking skills
Willingness to learn and actively contribute
Prior board or governance experience
Expertise in finance, law, marketing, fundraising, IT, business, or policy
Cultural awareness and knowledge of community sector issues
Understanding of nonprofit financials
