About the Role
The Northern Adelaide Local Health Network (NALHN) offers an exciting opportunity for a dedicated Medical Practitioner to join our Northern Mental Health Service. This role allows you to contribute to high‐quality mental health care while developing your clinical expertise within a supportive and dynamic environment.
As a Medical Practitioner, you will play an integral role in delivering safe, patient‐centred care. Working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, you will apply your knowledge and skills to support consumers presenting with complex psychiatric conditions and/or cognitive impairments, including those displaying challenging behaviours. Where appropriate, you will consult with specialist medical providers to ensure accurate assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning.
You will also actively participate in Continuous Quality Improvement initiatives and contribute to education activities within the service.
According to the SA Health Salaried Medical Officers Enterprise Agreement 2025, the total term of employment with SA Health will be 3 years. Rotations following the initial 12 month allocation as Medical Practitioner will be determined in line with your training and SA Health's requirements. This may include transfer to other SA Health locations to perform work appropriate to classification, skills and capabilities.
Responsibilities
* Deliver safe, patient‐centred care for consumers presenting with complex psychiatric conditions and/or cognitive impairments.
* Collaborate with multidisciplinary team to support challenging behaviours and consult with specialist medical providers for accurate assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning.
* Participate in Continuous Quality Improvement initiatives and contribute to education activities.
* Adhere to SA Health standards, including the SA Health Salaried Medical Officers Enterprise Agreement 2025 and applicable policies.
Qualifications & Requirements
* Hold a Bachelor of Medicine; Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent, registrable with the Medical Board of Australia as a Medical Practitioner with General Registration.
* Excellent clinical and relevant procedural skills.
* Demonstrated experience in psychiatry.
* Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team and communicate confidently with colleagues, patients, and carers.
* Commitment to continuous quality improvement and safe clinical practice.
* Adaptability and resilience within a changing health service environment.
* Ability to contribute to education activities and support junior staff.
Additional eligibility requirements:
* Appointment subject to satisfactory Criminal History Check.
* DHS Working With Children Check (WWCC).
* National Police Check for general employment probity, vulnerable person‐related employment and aged care sector screening.
* Immunisation Risk: Category A (direct contact with blood or body substances).
