About the role:
This position is based on Ward K3 within the Maternity and Gynaecology Service, where you will have the chance to care for primarily surgical patients allocated to flexible surge beds. The ward features eight beds that expand during periods of high hospital activity, allowing you to practice and enhance your skills across a diverse range of disciplines.
Responsibilities:
Provide efficient, person-centred care that meets the needs of patients and their families, acting as an advocate to help them make informed decisions, and ensuring they understand clinical interventions and service delivery processes.
Make appropriate referrals for patients' discharge needs and offer supervision and mentoring to staff and students.
Ensure the exceptional culture of K3 team, known for delivering quality, compassionate care to women from various medical specialties.
Redeploy to K3 gynaecology beds or other areas within John Hunter Hospital as required, ensuring a varied and enriching experience.
Professional development:
Orientation day and ongoing support from a Clinical Nurse Educator.
Access to regular educational opportunities provided by the Maternity and Gynaecology Service's education team and broader hospital-wide resources.

John Hunter Hospital is located in Hunter New England Local Health District, close to public transport, schools, shopping centres, beaches, and the Hunter Valley vineyards.
Requirements:
Current registration as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA.
Eligibility:
To be eligible for permanent employment, you must be an Australian Citizen, a permanent resident of Australia, or a New Zealand citizen with a current New Zealand Passport. Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable local candidate is identified for the position; in this instance, you may only be offered employment in line with the conditions and expiry date of your visa.
