Job Overview

Position: Cardiac Nurse Educator (Grade 2) – Permanent Part Time, 19 hours per week, full time equivalent base salary $135,826.04 – $138,534.10. Location: Westmead. Applications close midnight 1st March 2026.

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Cardiac Nurse Educator to join the Sydney Children's Hospitals Network (SCHN). The role supports nursing staff across the cardiac inpatient unit and the wider cardiac service by developing and delivering education programmes that enhance the workforce's capability to respond to current and emerging paediatric healthcare needs.

Key Responsibilities

* Work in collaboration with the Cardiac Services leadership team to identify education priorities and support the nursing education strategy.
* Lead and coordinate the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of education programmes across the cardiac service.
* Oversee the development and maintenance of cardiac educational resources for staff and families, regularly reviewing and updating learning packages.
* Establish and maintain cardiac clinical competency assessment processes.
* Participate in SCHN working groups to improve patient care and education delivery.
* Contribute to the SCHN strategic education plan and develop aligned resources.
* Promote and support compliance with mandatory training requirements for Cardiac Service nursing staff.
* Lead a culture of effectiveness that encourages reflection, learning and resilience to change.
* Create and support a multidisciplinary team learning environment across the Cardiac Service.
* Embed SCHN CORE values into educational practice.
* Foster a culture of innovation, creativity, research, evaluation and best practice.
* Role model person‐centred care in all educational and clinical interactions.
* Provide educational consultancy, support, mentorship and leadership to the cardiac nurse education team within SCHN.
* Provide relevant cardiac education material that incorporates adult learning principles.
* Engage in quality improvement initiatives related to education and clinical practice.
* Ensure timely reporting of key portfolio issues or risks to stakeholders.
* Collaborate with SCHN Nurse Education Manager, Educators and CNE team to develop education that enhances professional practice.
* Work across SCHN.

Qualifications and Experience

* Current authority to practice as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA.
* Relevant post‐registration nursing/midwifery clinical or education qualifications.
* Demonstrated ability to plan, coordinate, deliver and evaluate education programmes for paediatrics and adolescents.
* Demonstrated effective leadership skills, including communication, negotiation and problem solving.
* Evidence of providing relevant education material incorporating adult learning principles.
* Evidence of professional activity within paediatrics and adolescents, self‐motivation and ability to manage competing priorities.
* Evidence of preparation of written submissions and reports and skills in MS Office.
