What's the role?
As a Lawyer / Senior Lawyer – Mortgages & Consumer Credit, you'll provide practical legal and regulatory advice across Westpac's home lending business, supporting the home ownership journey end to end. This is a hands‐on advisory role covering the full home lending lifecycle. You'll support teams across Mortgages with day‐to‐day legal advice, helping manage legal and regulatory risk while balancing commercial objectives and customer outcomes. The role suits someone who enjoys problem solving, working collaboratively with stakeholders at a similar level, and providing clear, pragmatic advice in a fast-moving environment
What do I need?
* 6 plus years PQE, with flexibility depending on capability
* Consumer credit experience is ideal, but broader banking, credit, advisory or litigation backgrounds will be considered
* Experience in in‐house legal teams or law firms supporting regulated businesses
* Strong judgement in identifying and managing legal and reputational risk
* Ability to provide clear, practical legal advice to non‐lawyers
* Exposure to consumer credit regulation (including NCCP Act); ASIC Act and Privacy Act exposure desirable
* Mortgages, home lending or broader retail banking experience is beneficial
* A practical, customer‐focused legal thinker who knows when to act independently and when to elevate
