Job Title: Technical Procurement Specialist
Description:
The role of a Technical Procurement Specialist is to source and procure make-to-order items from external vendors, while ensuring timely delivery and resolving technical issues. This position requires strong analytical skills, as the specialist will be responsible for analyzing specifications and drawings to identify suitable suppliers.
Key Responsibilities:
* Analyze specifications and drawings to identify potential suppliers
* Sourcing and requesting quotes from external vendors
* Liaise with stakeholders to resolve queries and ensure required information is available
* Selecting vendors that meet technical, engineering, and commercial objectives
* Negotiating pricing and lead times with selected vendors
* Maintaining awareness of vendor lead times and negotiating changes as required
* Working with Production Planners to ensure adequate stock levels are held
* Creating delivery schedules to meet production demands
* Obtaining financial approvals for procurement activities
* Undertaking vendor checks and onboarding new suppliers
* Negotiating formal agreements with strategic suppliers
* Expediting open orders and communicating with vendors regarding delays
* Requesting concessions from Engineering stakeholders and managing returns to vendors
* Supporting the Quality team in supplier audits and follow-up of non-conformances
* Communicating quality inspection requirements to vendors
* Providing coaching and direction to Purchasing Officers
* Preparing governance reports to VP Supply Chain
* Deputizing for the Strategic Sourcing Manager and Purchasing Manager
* Actively participating in Work, Health and Safety and Continuous Improvement activities
Requirements:
* Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and Bills of Materials
* Supply Chain, Engineering, or Manufacturing trade or degree qualification
* APICS Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) or Certified Planning and Inventory Management (CPIM)
* Excellent general verbal and written communication skills
* Persuasive communication and influencing skills
* Interest in engineering and production processes and details
* Attention to detail oriented and solution orientated
* Organised and collaborative team player
* Ability to meets tight deadlines and demonstrates pragmatism
Experience:
* Comprehensive experience in international sourcing and procurement
* Minimum 5 years' experience in a similar role with manufacturing and/or engineering organisation
* Experience interpreting requirements of, and sourcing products and materials using engineering drawings and specifications
* Experience working with ERP systems and MRP systems
