About the Program
The Geelong Medicare Mental Health Centre delivers free, accessible, and immediate support to individuals experiencing mental health challenges, substance use concerns, and psychological distress without the need for a referral or appointment. This walk-in service offers a safe, inclusive environment where individuals can access timely assistance during periods of acute distress or crisis.
Role of the Senior AOD Clinician
The Senior AOD Clinician plays a pivotal role in leading clinical responses, offering assessment and intervention, and supporting integrated care planning for individuals with complex mental health and substance use needs. The Clinician will provide evidence-based AOD interventions, including assessment, care planning, counselling, harm minimisation, and relapse prevention strategies.
Responsibilities
1. Support individuals and families to reduce the harms associated with alcohol and other drug use.
2. Promote recovery, resilience, and improved mental health outcomes through collaborative, trauma-informed, and culturally safe practices.
3. Contribute to the development and delivery of integrated care pathways in line with recommendations from the Royal Commission into Victoria's Mental Health System.
4. Work in partnership with local health, community, and social services to ensure coordinated and holistic care.
5. Build capacity within the team by sharing AOD expertise, delivering internal training, contributing to reflective practice, and supporting the integration of AOD-informed approaches across clinical and non-clinical roles.
Requirements
Skills and Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Youth Work, Mental Health, or similar discipline.
* Certificate IV in AOD or completion of 4 AOD core competencies or willingness to complete studies during employment within first 6 months.
* Proven experience conducting assessments, case management, and development of client-centred treatment plans with clients with complex needs.
* Proven clinical experience applying evidence-based psychological therapies/interventions, including robust understanding of theoretical concepts within Mental Health and AOD sciences and their application to relating issues and challenges.
