The Opportunity

The Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences is seeking a motivated Research Officer to support the operations of a leading epigenetics laboratory within the Blood Cancer Program at the Australian Centre for Blood Diseases. Based at The Alfred Centre, this role will contribute directly to high-impact translational research aimed at improving outcomes for patients with haematological malignancies.

Working closely with the Laboratory Head and research team, you will undertake a broad range of experimental research activities and provide high-quality technical and administrative support to enable the successful delivery of program outcomes. This role is ideal for a graduate with a strong background in experimental medical research who is looking to further develop their skills in a dynamic, collaborative research environment.

Your Key Responsibilities

You will support the delivery of high-quality translational research by:

Undertaking experimental, technical and administrative research activities

Performing cell biology, molecular biology and biochemical techniques

Working with haematological cancer cell lines and supporting in vivo mouse models

Collecting, analysing and documenting research data and outcomes

Ensuring compliance with research protocols, ethics, OHS and regulatory requirements

Contributing to continuous improvement and quality assurance activities

Communicating effectively with researchers, collaborators and stakeholders

About You

You will bring:

A tertiary qualification in a relevant field or equivalent experience (with Honours/Masters)

Experience in experimental medical research, ideally in cancer or epigenetics

Strong analytical, organisational and time management skills

Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a research team

High attention to detail and sound communication skills

A flexible, proactive approach with willingness to develop new skills

Experience with CRISPR/Cas9, genetic screens or in vivo models is advantageous.
