The Assets Accountant plays a critical role in ensuring Council's infrastructure, property, plant and equipment are accurately recorded, valued and reported in line with legislative and accounting standards. Reporting to the Financial Accountant, this position provides specialist asset accounting expertise that underpins Council's financial statements and long‐term financial sustainability.

The role is responsible for the end‐to‐end financial treatment of assets, including acquisitions, disposals, depreciation, reconciliations and revaluations. Working closely with the Asset Management and Corporate Finance teams, the Assets Accountant ensures alignment between financial and asset management systems, maintains the integrity of the assets register and supports timely, compliant annual reporting.

A key focus of the position is coordinating and reviewing asset valuations, preparing supporting working papers and disclosures, and ensuring data accuracy across systems. The role also contributes to continuous improvement by streamlining processes, strengthening controls and identifying opportunities to improve the efficiency and reliability of asset accounting practices.

This position suits an experienced accounting professional with strong attention to detail, a solid understanding of asset accounting standards and local government requirements, and the ability to work collaboratively across technical and operational teams to deliver high‐quality financial outcomes.

* Accurate and compliant asset accounting, including timely processing of asset movements, depreciation, disposals and reconciliations
* High‐quality asset reporting, supporting statutory financial statements, notes and disclosures in line with Australian Accounting Standards and local government requirements
* Robust asset valuation coordination, including preparation of data, review of valuation outputs and incorporation into financial records
* Strong data integrity across systems, ensuring alignment between the asset register, general ledger and supporting asset management systems
* Continuous improvement in asset accounting practices, strengthening controls, documentation and efficiency of processes
What you will need to be successful
* Demonstrated experience in asset accounting, preferably within local government or a large, asset‐intensive organisation
* Sound working knowledge of accounting standards relating to infrastructure, property, plant and equipment (including valuations and depreciation)
* High attention to detail and analytical capability, with the ability to identify and resolve discrepancies in complex data sets
* Strong collaboration and communication skills, enabling effective work with finance, asset management and operational teams
* A proactive, improvement‐focused approach, with confidence to refine processes and support audit and compliance requirements

Full Time Contract: 70 hours a fortnight

Salary: A competitive salary will be offered to the successful applicant commensurate with their relevant skills and experience.
