Overview
We are looking for a technical leader with a proven track record for building, nurturing and developing high‑performing engineering teams to drive the Ubuntu Engineering organisation. The Ubuntu Engineering Lead will be responsible for the technical roadmap and for growing a team that ships reliable, secure and performant software across the four key Ubuntu teams.
Responsibilities
- Own the technical roadmap and drive delivery for your team.
- Lead, coach and develop engineers, foster a culture of quality, performance and resilience.
- Drive planning, estimation and execution of engineering work streams.
- Partner with product and other engineering teams to define vision and strategy for Ubuntu.
- Contribute to upstream and neighboring open‑source projects and optimise the Ubuntu distribution for performance, reliability and security.
- Author and improve technical and community documentation.
- Work with senior management and external stakeholders to set expectations and influence engineering delivery across the organisation.
Qualifications
- Technical leadership experience and a background in software engineering.
- Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, STEM or a compelling narrative about an alternative path.
- Experience with Rust, Go, Python, Flutter or C/C++ and a passion for open‑source software.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and written skills.
- Results‑oriented with a personal drive to meet commitments.
- Ability to travel twice a year for company events (up to two weeks each). Remote work is fully supported and there are remote roles open in every time zone.
