A busy IT firm is seeking a Senior Wintel Engineer is will be responsible for the design, implementation, administration, and support of Windows-based server environments. This role ensures the reliability, security, and performance of Wintel infrastructure while supporting business-critical applications and services. The engineer will also contribute to automation, patch management, and system optimization initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage, configure, and maintain Microsoft Windows Server environments (2016/2019/2022).
* Support and administer Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, and related infrastructure services.
* Implement and maintain virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper-V, or similar).
* Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and ensure high availability of servers.
* Perform regular patching, backup, and recovery operations.
* Participate in infrastructure upgrades, migrations, and project rollouts.
* Develop and maintain system documentation, procedures, and configurations.
* Ensure compliance with security policies and best practices.
* Collaborate with network, storage, and application teams to deliver integrated IT solutions.
* Provide on-call support and respond to incidents as part of the IT operations team.
Skills and Experience
* 8+ years' experience as a Wintel or Windows Systems Engineer.
* Strong knowledge of Windows Server OS (2016/2019/2022).
* Experience managing Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, and DHCP.
* Familiarity with VMware or Hyper-V virtualization environments.
* Scripting and automation skills (PowerShell, Python, or similar).
* Experience with monitoring and management tools (e.g., SCOM, SolarWinds).
* Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
* Experience with Azure, AWS, or hybrid cloud environments.
* Knowledge of SCCM / Intune for patching and deployment.
* Familiarity with backup solutions (e.g., Veeam, Commvault).
* Understanding of ITIL processes (Incident, Problem, and Change Management).
* Relevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Administrator, VMware VCP).
