About This Opportunity


Join a critical operations team supporting world-class research at UQ Biological Resources, based at the Queensland Brain Institute. As a Material Support Handler, you will play a vital behind-the-scenes role in ensuring the smooth, safe and compliant operation of a highly regulated research animal facility.

You will deliver essential cage wash, sterilisation, waste management and materials handling services, maintaining strict standards of hygiene, biosecurity and regulatory compliance. Your work will directly enable research and breeding activities by keeping facilities operational, well-supplied and audit-ready.

This hands-on role is ideal for someone who takes pride in precision, reliability and teamwork, and enjoys working in a structured environment. You will be supported with training, gain exposure to basic animal care activities, and join a collaborative team where your contribution makes a tangible impact every day.

Key responsibilities will include:

* Perform cage wash, sterilisation, waste management and materials handling services in accordance with standard operating procedures, biosecurity requirements and regulatory standards.
* Operate, monitor and maintain cage wash and sterilisation equipment, performing quality control checks and documenting results to ensure safe, compliant and effective processing.
* Manage the receipt, storage, distribution and stock control of feed, bedding and consumables, liaising with stores personnel to maintain adequate supply levels.
* Work collaboratively within the facility operations team, adhering to PPE, WHS and animal ethics requirements, and supporting basic animal care activities as required.

About You

* Completion of a Certificate III qualification, Year 12 or equivalent, with relevant work experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
* Demonstrated ability to work effectively and cooperatively within a team environment.
* High level of accuracy and attention to detail, particularly when following procedures and quality control requirements.
* Strong time management and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet operational deadlines.
* Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with supervisors, colleagues and internal service providers.
* Capacity to work independently, follow instructions and operate safely within a regulated and compliance-driven environment.

The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks, including right to work in Australia and mandatory immunisations.
