We're looking for a Senior Mainframe Engineer for an established financial services organisation. You will be supporting core platforms used for customer servicing, credit assessment, and product origination across digital and internal channels.
You will be responsible for maintaining, enhancing, and supporting business‐critical mainframe systems, operating within strict regulatory, security, and operational requirements.
Key Responsibilities
* Design, develop, and support COBOL and CAP COBOL applications on z/OS, supporting high-volume, mission‐critical workloads.
* Maintain and enhance online IMS and batch applications, ensuring reliability, performance, and operational excellence.
* Develop and support DB2, IMS DB, and sequential file‐based data processing solutions.
* Act as a subject matter expert in COBOL and mainframe engineering, defining coding standards, patterns, and best practices.
* Ensure adherence to engineering standards, controls, and processes to meet regulatory and compliance obligations.
* Support application stability, incident resolution, and controlled change delivery.
What you'll bring
* Strong experience developing COBOL in large‐scale enterprise or regulated financial environments.
* Exposure to, or hands‐on experience with, CAP COBOL in production systems.
* Proven experience working with IMS DB, including data access, schemas, and program interfaces.
* Solid understanding of z/OS mainframe environments.
* Experience with Endevor for source and release management.
* Exposure to Git‐based tooling (e.g. Git, Bitbucket).
* A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
