Do you want to work with bees as calm as these?

Do you want to work with bees producing certified organic honey on an island renowned for its pristine wilderness?

Kangaroo Island, the oldest bee sanctuary in the world, is home to the purest Ligurian bees on earth, renowned for their productivity and placid nature.

The business is based in Kingscote, the main town of Kangaroo Island, and this is where you will most likely live as well. With over 1000 hives located in remote locations across Kangaroo Island, you will also get to work in places most people never get to see.

The Kangaroo Island Ligurian Bee Co sells our multi award winning honey and other bee related products predominately online and through our tourismbusiness and retail outlet, Island Beehive, where we also run guided beekeeping experiences for groups of 1-8 people.

As we continue to rebuild hive numbers and production that was lost during the devastating 2020 bushfires, we need your help.

Our workdays as a beekeeper are a mix of everything. A typical day can involve anything from brood inspections, honey lifting or extraction, queen breeding, shifting hives, equipment maintenance and much more.

If you're passionate about bees, confident speaking with visitors, and want to share your knowledge, there is also the opportunity to learn to guide Beekeeping Experience tours,

We're looking for someone safety conscious too– we have invested in high quality, well-maintained equipment but we are relying on you to look after yourself and other team members and our gear.

We are here for a long time so you will also be looking after our pristine environment and be passionate about sustainability.

We are now looking for a self-motivated achiever to become our new beekeeper.

Once you have proven your commitment and competency, there are also opportunities for growth for other roles in our expanding business.

We are particularly looking for someone who wants to grow professionally and personally to become a leader in the industry.

You should apply if the following applies to you.

1. You are content with your own company and comfortable in remote and isolated locations.

Kangaroo Island is remote, travel to the mainland is expensive and takes time. You will be based in Kingscote, the main town on Kangaroo Island, it has a population of just 2500, so you'll need to be someone who enjoys being out of the mainstream for periods of time.

Kangaroo Island is perfect to experience nature, get out amongst the wildlife, to explore new trails with new people and to discover the things that really matter in life.

You are happy to be in the country, on a farm, working with machinery and solving problems single-handedly as they arise.

2. You have a can-do approach, a passion for life, and an attitude of gratitude.

You are confident in your abilities, are keen to learn, are receptive to feedback, take responsibility for your mistakes, you're reliable, you do what you say you're going to do, you leave things better than you found them and help other members of the team when needed.

3. You believe that there is no such thing as bad weather, just bad choices of clothing.

There is a saying here on Kangaroo Island that "if you don't like the weather, wait five minutes". It rains here in winter, sometimes in spring, summer and autumn, the wind blows often, and it can be very hot in summer during the day and still cold at night.

Full time casual work available with immediate start for an experienced beekeeper, all equipment provided.

This is seasonal work and may lead to an ongoing position for the right person.

We can sign off your 88 days for WHV, you can live, work and play on Kangaroo Island
