The ACT Education Directorate seeks passionate and qualified Outdoor Education Teachers for a year 11 and 12 setting in Canberra at The University of at Gungahlin College in Canberra.

In 2024 the ACT Government launched Inclusive Education: A Disability Inclusion Strategy for ACT Public Schools 2024-2034. The strategy aims to deliver greater inclusion for students with disability across all ACT public schools by making sure schools have the support they need to meet the needs of all learners.

About the College:

Gungahlin College is the ACT's newest and most dynamic Senior Secondary College with approximately 1200 Year 11 and 12 students. Our vision is to empower every student to reach their full potential. Our extensive curriculum, supported by an inclusive student wellbeing program, offers a wide range of student development opportunities, giving students the flexibility to follow their own individual pathway to academic success, including a range of Vocational Education and Training options.
The College is seeking a dynamic and suitably qualified classroom teacher who can take a leading role in the College's Outdoor Education Program. Over 50 students access the program annually and have the opportunity to study at either a Tertiary or Accredited level.

About you:

* Have a passion for education and teaching, supporting a student-centred approach to learning.
* Can demonstrate knowledge and successful application of BSSS Senior Secondary curriculum, policies and procedures related to Outdoor and Environmental Education/ Recreation (or relevant interstate curriculum equivalent.)
* Possess highly developed administrative and risk management skills to ensure effective planning and compliance of camps and excursions related to curriculum content.
* Have positive classroom management skills and the ability to communicate effectively.
* Proven experience establishing and fostering relationships with students, staff and parents/carers.
* Are committed to supporting the wellbeing of students.
* Desirable: Certificate III or IV in Outdoor Education/ Leadership/ Recreation or similar
* Desirable: A light-rigid bus licence would be an advantage.

Eligibility requirements for employment

To be eligible to be employed as a teacher in an ACT public school, you must:

* Education qualifications – Have an approved four-year full-time tertiary education qualification and a Certificate III or IV in Outdoor Leadership. Applicants with qualifications gained outside of Australia should complete a skills assessment by the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) to confirm qualification requirements and English language proficiency to teach in Australian schools. Detailed information is available from the AITSL website.
* Teacher registration – Hold a valid approval to teach with the ACT Teacher Quality Institute (TQI). If you do not hold a teacher registration with the ACT TQI, we suggest starting your application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity. Teachers holding registration in another Australian state or territory or New Zealand are eligible for mutual recognition.
* Working With Vulnerable People (WWVP) registration – Have a valid ACT WWVP. If you don't, we suggest starting your application process at the same time.
