ML Building Pty Ltd We are a growing Australian business looking for an experienced Wood Machinist who will be responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining woodworking machines to fabricate precision timber components used in construction projects. The role supports the company's production requirements by ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and quality in the manufacturing of structural and decorative wood products.
This position plays a key role in workshop operations, contributing to timely project delivery, material optimisation, and adherence to safety and quality standards. Benefits Salary: $76,515 to $85,000 plus Super depending on experience Task & responsibilities 1. Machine Operation and Setup
* Set up and operate woodworking machines including saws, planers, routers, spindle moulders, thicknessers, and CNC machinery
* Adjust machine settings, cutting tools, and guides to achieve precise dimensions and finishes
* Interpret job specifications to determine appropriate machining methods
2. Timber Processing and Fabrication
* Cut, shape, drill, and machine timber materials to required sizes and profiles
* Produce components such as frames, joinery parts, mouldings, and structural elements
* Ensure consistency and accuracy across batch production
3. Reading and Interpreting Technical Drawings
* Read and interpret plans, shop drawings, and cutting lists
* Translate technical specifications into machining processes
* Verify measurements and tolerances prior to and during production
4. Quality Control and Finishing
* Inspect finished products to ensure compliance with specifications and quality standards
* Identify defects, inconsistencies, or machining errors and take corrective action
* Perform finishing processes such as sanding, trimming, and edging
5. Maintenance and Troubleshooting
* Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of woodworking machinery
* Identify mechanical issues and report faults for repair
* Replace or sharpen cutting tools and blades as required
6. Workplace Health and Safety Compliance
* Operate machinery in accordance with WHS regulations and safe work procedures
* Use personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times
* Maintain a clean, organised, and hazard-free work environment
7. Materials Handling and Inventory Support
* Select appropriate timber materials based on job requirements
* Minimise waste through efficient cutting and material utilisation
* Assist in stock control and reporting of material shortages
8. Team Collaboration and Production Support
* Work closely with carpenters, cabinet makers, and supervisors
* Assist in meeting production deadlines and project timelines
* Provide input into process improvements and workflow efficiency Qualification & experience Essential Criteria:
* Relevant trade qualification (at least AQF Cert III or IV) or at least 3 years of relevant experience if without formal qualification
* Minimum of 12 months of relevant work experience
* Demonstrated skills in handling of tile cutting tools
* Able to work unsupervised
* Ability to work under pressure
