Where you’ll be working
Belmont Hospital is a 150‑bed acute facility with a busy Emergency Department, inpatient wards (CCU/COU, Medical, Surgical, Sub‑Acute, Transition to Residential Aged Care – TRAC), four operating theatres, several outpatient clinics, pharmacy, on‑site imaging & pathlology and a Lakeview detoxification Europe.
What you’ll be doing

Provide medical services and gain supervised experience in the management of acutely ill patients in urban non‑tertiary settings. The role includes rotations in the ACCH & Critical Care SRMO unit (CCU/COU), as well as opportunities in the Emergency Department, Anaesthetics and General Medicine departments. Regular progression into a speciality training program in Anaesthesia, Emergency Medicine or Intensive Care is expected.
* Coronary Care Unit (CCU)/Close Observation Unit (COU) – 8‑bed unit with telemetry, non‑invasive ventilation, short‑term vasopressor capabilities, and two CCON cameras. Supervision by specialists on‑site and/or on‑call, with escalation via Hunter Retrieval Services, John Hunter Hospital Cardiology and other sub‑specialties.
* Emergency Department (ED) – approximately 30,000 presentations yearly. Staffed by FACEMs, CMOs, trainees, JMOs, and Nurse Practitioners. ACEM accredited for vocational training in Emergency Medicine.
* Anaesthetics – four operating theatres with a case mix including General Surgery, Orthopaedics, ENT, Urology and Plastics. ANZCA accredited for rural generalist anaesthesia training.
* General Medicine – four acute teams with specialist physicians from John Hunter Hospital, SRMOs and JMOs. Supported by on‑site Advanced Trainees in Cardiology, Geriatrics and General Medicine. RACP accredited for advanced training in General & Acute Care Medicine.
Training Options After Completion
* Acute Care Stream – Close Observation Unit, ED & Acute General Medicine.
* Critical Care Stream – Anaesthetics, Close Observation Unit & ED.
* Mixed Acute & Critical Care Stream.
Essential province
* MBBS or equivalent, current general registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
* Completed a minimum of 3‑4 years of full‑time clinical work, with recent experience in Australian health settings.
* Completion of recent critical care terms and relevant courses/workshops.
* If employed by NSW Health, evidence of vaccination to comply with NSW Health Occupational Assessment, Screening & Vaccination policy.
Selection Criteria
o Demonstrated knowledge, skills and problem‑solving in caring for complex patients, with recent experience in critical care (ICU, ED or Anaesthetics).
o Competency or planned enrolment in ALS‑2 and other critical‑care courses (ICU BASIC, EMST, ATLS, APLS, etc.).
o Demonstrated motivation for ongoing learning and improvement: reflection, quality improvement projects, teaching, leadership initiatives, and advocacy.
o Excellent communication with patients, families and multidisciplinary teams.
o Professional, compassionate attitude and flexibility.
