Apprenticeship - Engineering Mechanical (CNC Machinist)

PEER can help secure your future as an Engineering Mechanical Apprentice specialising as a Machinist Earn while you learn, gaining valuable hands‑on experience within the Maritime defence industry

PEER, in partnership with the Commonwealth and South Australian Governments and TAFE SA, is excited to bring the Shipbuilding Employment Pathways (SEP) Pilot Initiative to South Australia. SEP is designed to increase Australia's skilled labour in critical trades within the nuclear‑powered submarine, naval shipbuilding, and sustainment enterprises. This is a unique opportunity to develop the skills and experience you will need to thrive in one of the world's most innovative, and high‑impact sectors.

About you:

You're motivated, passionate, and committed to pursue a rewarding career within the rapidly growing defence industry. You're punctual, well‑presented, reliable and are committed to completing a 4-year apprenticeship. Health and Safety is important to you, you're a great team player, enjoy problem solving and working with your hands whilst also having a sound level of computer literacy, and numeracy skills.

About the Role :

This 4-year Apprenticeship offers you nationally accredited training, awarding you upon successful completion, a Certificate III in Engineering - Mechanical with a machinist focus.

This program will be delivered through the PEER Group Training Organisation (GTO) at Albert Park in collaboration with TAFE SA (Regency Campus), in addition to onsite work placements with employers operating at the forefront of the defence industry in various locations across SA

* Manufacturing Parts: Creating components from raw materials using lathes, milling machines, grinders, and CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines.
* Reading Drawings: Interpreting engineering plans, blueprints, and specifications.
* Precision Work: Performing highly accurate measurements and fitting parts to tight tolerances (e.g., 0.01-0.02mm).
* Assembly & Fitting: Assembling, fitting, and installing mechanical equipment and components.
* Maintenance & Repair: Servicing, maintaining, and repairing machinery and equipment.

You will be mentored and supported every step of the way. PEER has a dedicated Apprentice and Trainee Supervisor who will support you throughout your apprenticeship. The support does not stop there; when you join the PEER team you will gain access to a team of professionals, as well as support mechanisms provided by MasNational, TAFE SA and our Host Employers.

You will receive a competitive wage in line with the National Training Wage, including annual leave, personal leave, and superannuation. PEER ensures being an apprentice is financially rewarding as you develop your future skills.
