ABOUT HAIKU
Haiku is known for its Japanese interpretation onto the local café scene and has since created a buzzing location in the greenery of Camberwell, east of Melbourne for over 7 years. Haiku offers a 7 day café operation and 3 evenings running under a different alias, Haiku Kuro, from Thursday through to Saturday. In addition to our venue, Haiku Future is conveniently located next door as our new takeaway/pantry concept, selling speciality Japanese grocery items and quick to go meals and sushi.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Our passionate BOH team is looking for a new café head chef to lead our day time operations. This crucial role will be responsible for managing the overall operations of the daytime, ensuring Haiku continues to deliver a creative message through its culinary experience. The successful candidate will be highly motivated for everything hospitality and passionate in creating a harmonious approach to both the work and team. In addition this role will also have the creative opportunity to be involved in menu development, leading their own team and ensuring a positive working culture.
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
- Experience in a cook/chef role for a minimum of 5 years.
- Leadership position as a head or sous chef for a minimum of 2 years.
- A valuable understanding of Japanese cuisine and Melbourne’s café scene.
- Effective leadership and problem solving skills.
- Demonstrate organisation, time management and delegation.
- An understanding of food costs, rostering, targets and the responsibilities of maintaining standards upheld.
- Knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices.
- Ability to work in a high paced environment.
- Up to speed with ordering systems and keeping up to date with price fluctuations from suppliers.
WHAT WE OFFER YOU:
- Full time hours of 5 days with a minimum of 1 weekend day.
