The Opportunity
The Senior Compliance Officer role sits within the Practitioner Compliance directorate of Building Commission NSW. This is a high performing team responsible for delivery of risk-based compliance and proactive inspection activities across the Building and Construction sector in NSW primarily focused on builders and specialist trades including electricians, plumbers, gasfitters, medical gasfitters and air conditioning. Our powers of enforcement are drawn primarily from the Home Building Act 1989, Plumbing and Drainage Act 2011, Gas and Electricity (Consumer Safety) Act 2017, Design and Building Practitioners Act 2020 supporting Regulations. Other Acts associated to the Construction Industry in NSW also provide us with regulatory enforcement powers.
To be successful in this role you will have
* Ability to supervise and conduct proactive compliance operations and inspections to ensure industry are aware and meet legislative obligations.
* Where non-compliance is detected take appropriate compliance action ranging from warnings, penalty infringement notices or consideration of formal disciplinary action.
* Prepare complex briefings and escalate instances where there has been repetitive non-compliance for consideration of prosecution proceedings being commenced.
* Ability to coordinate and mentor inspectors on compliance initiatives and outcomes.
* Gather and analyse information from inspection data and staff into trends or practices in the building and constructions sector and emerging compliance issues and provide regular reports to the Director.
* Ability to foster an environment that encourages continued learning and development.
Essential Requirements
* Demonstrated knowledge and capability to conduct compliance inspections and investigations including the gathering and recording of evidence, taking statements, conducting formal interviews and preparation of reports and briefs of evidence.
Desirable
* Completion of Certificate IV in Investigations, or equivalent, or preparedness to under a employee sponsored program.
* Building qualifications are not required for this role however may be beneficial.

Salary Grade 9/10, with the base salary for this role starting at 129,464 base plus superannuation
