About The Opportunity 
An exciting opportunity at Barcaldine Regional Council for a full-time Finance Manager to join the team in Barcaldine, QLD. Reporting to the Director of Corporate and Community Services, this is a hands-on, operational role where you will lead a capable finance team, ensuring the delivery of core financial operations while providing mentorship and leadership. 
More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to: 
- Leading annual budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting processes 
- Overseeing statutory compliance, audits, and grant acquittals 
- Managing day-to-day finance operations, including rates, AP/AR, and treasury 
- Coaching, mentoring, and upskilling team members 
- Partnering with Council leadership to improve financial literacy and decision-making 
- Contributing to business plans, cost-benefit analyses, and long-term financial strategies 
- Implementing and optimising financial systems, policies, and controls 
- Ensuring strong governance, accountability, and financial sustainability across the Council 
About You 
To be successful in this role, you will need a tertiary qualification in Accounting, Commerce, or Finance, along with a minimum of 4 years’ experience in a similar finance leadership role. 
Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued: 
- CA or CPA qualification (highly regarded but not essential) 
- Experience working within or supporting local/state government service delivery 
You Will Also Bring 
- Strong leadership presence with proven ability to guide and empower teams 
- Proven ability to lead audits, prepare statutory reports, and manage budgets 
- Experience coaching or mentoring finance teams 
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills, including working with executive leadership and Councillors/boards 
- High-level financial acumen with the ability to problem-solve and challenge assumptions 
- Highly organised and confident, managing competing priorities in a busy finance environment 
- Familiarity with accounting systems (experience with Practical is highly regarded) 
- Resilient, adaptable, and motivated by meaningful impact in regional communities

- Salary of $120,000 - $140,000 PLUS Super
