Deck Hand Opportunity
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Deck Hand to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for handling ropes and wires, operating mooring equipment, and assisting with catch operations.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2 years international or 1 year Australian recent and relevant work experience, along with safety and rescue certificates compliant with the International Convention on Standards, Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers 1978.
Responsibilities:
* Handling ropes and wires, and operating mooring equipment when berthing and unberthing.
* Assisting with catch operations using on-board equipment and stowing and securing the catch.
* Ensuring the safety of the vessel, catch, equipment and all on board.
* Performing routine maintenance and checks on deck equipment, cargo gear, rigging, and lifesaving and firefighting appliances.
* Attaching gear and fastening towing cables to nets.
* Casting and lowering nets, pots, lines and traps into water.
* Preparing lines, attaching running gear and bait, and setting lines into position.
* Hauling in fishing gear and removing fish and other marine life.
* Sorting, cleaning, preserving, stowing and refrigerating catch.
Requirements:
* A minimum of 2 years international, or 1 year Australian, recent and relevant work experience.
* Experience in the various responsibilities listed above.
* Safety and Rescue Certificates compliant with the International Convention on Standards, Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers 1978.
* An exceptional work ethic.
* A strong focus on safety and compliance.
* Flexibility to be available for a variety of shifts, dependent upon the weather.
* Intermediate communication skills – both verbal and written.
* Ability to work well within a team environment, interacting respectfully at all times.
* Current First Aid Certification (or willing to obtain).
* A current Drivers' License.
* Ability to take direction, while using your initiative.
