Paediatric Registered Nurse - Fixed-Term Contract

The Ward:
A leading public hospital in northern Tasmania, home to a dedicated paediatric inpatient unit delivering high-quality, family-centred care to infants, children, and adolescents.
The multidisciplinary team includes paediatric nurses, doctors, allied health, and support staff, all committed to safe and compassionate care tailored to each child's needs.
They work closely with paediatric services across Tasmania and community partners to ensure continuity of care. The unit also supports clinical education and contributes to ongoing quality improvement and evidence-based practice.
The Role:
1. Clinical Care: Administering medications, monitoring vital signs, managing IV therapy, and responding to changes in patient condition.
2. Family-Centred Support: Engaging with families to provide education, emotional support, and guidance throughout the child's hospital stay.
3. Care Coordination: Collaborating with paediatricians, allied health professionals, and external services to ensure continuity of care.
4. Documentation & Communication: Maintaining accurate clinical records and communicating effectively with the healthcare team.
5. Patient Advocacy: Ensuring the rights, safety, and wellbeing of paediatric patients are upheld at all times.
6. Education & Mentorship: Supporting student nurses and participating in ongoing professional development.
You will need:
1. Paediatric Clinical Expertise: Understanding of child development, paediatric illnesses, and age-specific care needs.
2. Compassion and Empathy: Ability to connect with children and families in a supportive and respectful manner.
3. Critical Thinking: Rapid assessment and decision-making skills in dynamic clinical situations.
4. Communication Skills: Clear, age-appropriate communication with children and effective collaboration with families and colleagues.
5. Resilience and Adaptability: Capacity to manage emotional demands and adapt to changing priorities.
6. Teamwork: Strong collaboration within a multidisciplinary team to deliver holistic care.
7. Cultural Sensitivity: Awareness and respect for diverse backgrounds and family structures.
Details of Job:
* Type: Fixed-term, part-time day worker position
* Hours: Up to 32 hours per fortnight (negotiable with the successful applicant)
* Contract: Commencing as soon as possible until 2 May 2026
* Salary: $78,179 to $105,995 pro rata per annum
* Superannuation: Additional 12% employer contribution
The salary range is in accordance with the Nurses and Midwives (Tasmania State Service) Agreement 2023. Access to the Grade 4 salary range ($99,455-$105,995) is subject to a successful application for progression. Additional Post Graduate Allowance.
