Cotton Australia is seeking a Communications and Media Specialist to join the team. Reporting to the Communications Manager, this role will help deliver Cotton Australia’s communication strategy.

The successful applicant will have:
Strong communication planning and delivery skills
Experience managing media issues and relations
Excellent writing and content development skills across multiple formats
Ability to build networks with media and stakeholders
Relevant tertiary qualifications, and 3–5 years’ experience in communications
Ability to work well within a small, cohesive team
Sound working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
Strong time and project management skills
Knowledge of Australian agriculture and rural affairs
Skills in photo and video editing (e.g. Photoshop, Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, Clipchamp) or willingness to learn quickly
Familiarity with web CMS and email marketing platforms, or willingness to learn quickly
Basic design or publishing skills (e.g. Canva)
Experience supporting communications for events and conferences
Photography and videography skills

Produce a wide range of content, including media releases, news articles, video case studies, and annual reports
Implement the organisation’s strategic communication plan
Support media engagement: write and pitch stories, respond to enquiries, prepare briefings, and liaise with national, state, and local outlets
Work with Cotton Australia staff to simplify complex issues into clear messages
Prepare talking points and presentation materials
Support a coordinated approach with the Communications Manager
Oversee media monitoring and reporting
Contribute to communications around major events such as the Australian Cotton Conference and Cotton Industry Awards
Deliver projects and commitments within tight deadlines
