The Opportunity
You'll join a well-respected, high-performing team of building surveyors delivering clear, compliant, and timely approvals for Class 1 and 10 residential projects across Tasmania. This role combines professional challenge with a lifestyle that's hard to beat – shorter commutes, a relaxed pace, clean air, and time back for what matters.
The business is established, growing steadily, and investing in its people and systems for the long term. You'll take ownership of your own projects end-to-end, mentor junior team members, and play a key role in shaping smarter ways of working. The role is based in Hobart, and financial support with relocation is available for interstate applicants.
Culture
It's a close-knit, down-to-earth team where quality work, mutual respect, and good humour go hand in hand. You'll be supported, trusted, and encouraged to bring ideas that make things better – for the business, clients, and the industry. The business values honesty, clarity, professionalism, and community. You'll work with people who care about doing the job right, every time. The business is family owned, profitable, and growing – arguably the most successful Building Surveying practice (residential homes) in Tasmania.
What You'll Be Doing
Deliver end-to-end certification and inspections for residential projects
Provide clear, practical advice to builders, designers, and clients
Plan and conduct inspections, prepare reports, and maintain compliance
Mentor emerging surveyors and contribute to continuous improvement
Work with smart systems (BCS, FuseSign, Bluebeam) in a paperless environment
Operate autonomously, supported by a structured, modern, and friendly team
What You'll Bring / Do you suit this role
Accreditation or registration as a Building Surveyor (Limited / or equivalent)
Experience with Class 1 & 10 residential approvals and inspections
Strong written communication and technical reporting skills
Solid understanding of NCC Volume 2, Tasmanian legislation (ideally, but not essential), and Australian Standards
A proactive, accountable approach – you like getting things done properly
A current driver's licence and willingness to travel for site visits
Why Tasmania?
Beyond the professional opportunity, this is a chance to live and work differently. Think short drives instead of traffic jams, beaches and mountain trails minutes from your door, and a cost of living that leaves room for real weekends. Tasmania offers the kind of work-life balance most mainland surveyors only talk about.
