Our Community Laws team are an innovative group of professionals that strive to set new standards in community safety and amenity.
This rewarding role is on the front line of services offered by Council to the local community with a broad spectrum of responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
Complex investigations under the Domestic Animals Act and Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, such as serious dog attacks and matters of animal cruelty.
Investigating offences under Council's Amenity Local Law, Environment Protection Act, Road Safety Road Rules and Road Safety Act.
Compiling briefs of evidence, including statement taking.
Animal management: containing loose dogs, conducting permit inspections, ensuring compliance for Declared Dangerous Dogs, securing stock out on roads and ensuring regulations and Codes of Practice are adhered to by animal owners and Domestic Animal Businesses.
Promoting responsible pet ownership and engaging with the community.
This is a full-time permanent role based at the Civic Centre. We support flexible working arrangements while ensuring operational needs of the role are met.
This is a Band 6 classified role; remuneration will be $98,****** – $107,****** (depending on experience) plus superannuation in accordance with the superannuation guarantee.
What you will need to thrive
Demonstrated experience in an investigative role, specifically including the collection of evidence, taking statements, conducting interviews, and preparing briefs of evidence for presentation to external bodies.
Experience in the field of animal management and confident in dealing with animals, in particular cats and dogs and shows awareness to personal safety and animal welfare.
Demonstrated skills in negotiation and conflict resolution and dealing with the public in complex situations.
Ability to interpret and apply legislation.
Strong customer service skills and experience in a service delivery environment.
Competent in the use of technology, systems and applications.
Excellent interpersonal skills, both written and oral, including the ability to relate to personnel both within the organisation and outside of Council.
The working hours for this role will be 8.00am to 5.00pm, Monday to Friday with an accrued day off every 4 weeks and rostered overtime to meet operational needs.
This role will require you to participate in an on-call roster and will also require you to undergo regular training, including conflict resolution, baton training and first aid.
Council provided uniform, safety equipment (including vest and Body Worn Camera) and other Council equipment will be required to be worn in the role.
A tool of trade vehicle is available for travel to and from work.
