As a seasoned wait staff member, you will oversee all aspects of restaurant operations, ensuring efficient service, customer satisfaction, and financial control. This role requires strong leadership skills to maintain a positive team culture.
Key Responsibilities
* Prepare the dining area before service, setting the table with attention to detail, glassware, and cutlery that reflects premium standards.
* Welcome guests warmly, present menus, explain daily specials, and make recommendations based on authentic offerings.
* Take accurate food and beverage orders, communicating clearly with the kitchen, pizza station, and bar.
* Serve dishes in the correct sequence with attention to presentation—wood-fired pizzas, handmade pasta, risotti, seafood, and classic desserts.
* Provide confident wine service and suggest pairings with Italian dishes, matching vongole with Vermentino or tartufata with Chianti.
* Manage stock rotation, assist with ordering, and perform inventory checks.
* Open, decant, and pour wines correctly, ensuring ideal temperature and varietal-appropriate service.
* Lead tasting sessions and staff training on Italian wines, menu knowledge, and regional traditions.
* Check on guests throughout service, responding to requests, and ensure overall satisfaction.
* Clear and reset tables promptly between courses.
* Process payments accurately and follow cash-handling procedures.
* Comply with food-handling, hygiene, and RSA requirements.
* Work with the wider team to maintain smooth coordination between the dining floor, bar, and kitchen.
* Assist with onboarding and mentoring new staff, particularly in wine service and Italian menu knowledge.
Additional Drink Service Duties:
* Prepare and serve cocktails, spirits, and non-alcoholic beverages in addition to wine.
* Maintain and restock bar and service stations, ensuring all drinks and glassware are available.
* Mix, garnish, and serve beverages according to standard recipes and presentation guidelines.
* Maintain a clean and organized bar or drinks service area.
* Monitor beverage stock levels, and report shortages or discrepancies.
* Ensure responsible service of alcohol at all times.
