The role
The position of Residential Care Worker works across a 24‐hour roster, which can include days, evenings, weekends, sleepovers, and active (stand‐up) overnight work.
About The Role
MacKillop Family Services is seeking experienced Residential Care Workers to join our South Metro Out of Home Care (OOHC) programs. Our programs provide residential care and case management support for young people with high and complex needs, as well as a therapeutically orientated program for young people in protective placements. Our Residential Services offer safe and supportive accommodation for children and young people referred through the Child Protection system.
Responsibilities
- Respond to the emotional and practical needs of young people.
- Support their development and independence.
- Maintain a safe and nurturing environment.
- Engage in therapeutic care practices.
- Complete household duties.
- Fulfill administrative requirements.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience as a Residential Care Worker, supporting young people and children.
- A Certificate IV in Child, Youth and Family Intervention (Residential and Out of Home Care) or another similar relevant qualification.
- Completion of four (4) additional mandatory competencies (Residential Care Skill Set).
- Extensive knowledge of trauma, and how it affects the development and behaviours of young people and children.
- A genuine interest in the wellbeing of young people, with the ability to demonstrate empathy in an open‐minded and non‐judgemental manner toward those in our care.
- Highly developed capacity for emotional self‐regulation, including the capacity to set and maintain consistent boundaries to provide safety, stability and consistency.
Must Have
- Valid and current Driver's Licence.
- First Aid Certificate with a minimum of six months remaining validity.
- Satisfactory Criminal History Check (paid for by MacKillop).
- Valid Employee Working with Children Check.
- Valid and current NDIS Workers Screening Check (for risk assessed / client facing roles).
- A minimum mandatory qualification of a relevant Certificate IV, along with the completion of the four (4) additional mandatory competencies that make up the Residential Care Skill Set.

- Remuneration: Hourly Rate of $34.58 to $41.45, as outlined in the SCHCADS Award Level 2 or 3, depending on qualifications and experience.
