The Role
We're seeking a skilled ADABAS Database Administrator with experience supporting database environments across IBM z/OS and UNIX/Linux platforms. This role is essential to maintaining the health, performance, and resilience of ADABAS systems that underpin government applications and regulatory workloads.
You will work closely with application developers, system engineers, and business teams to optimise database operations, support enhancements, and contribute to ongoing modernisation initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
* Install, configure, and maintain ADABAS database environments on mainframe (z/OS) and UNIX systems (AIX, Solaris, or Linux).
* Monitor and optimise database performance, storage utilisation, and overall system health.
* Conduct regular backups, restores, and disaster recovery planning/testing.
* Apply patches, upgrades, and changes through controlled release processes.
* Analyse and troubleshoot database issues, providing root cause analysis and corrective actions.
* Support batch and online processing environments dependent on ADABAS.
* Collaborate with developers and analysts to implement database changes and system enhancements.
* Provide support for Natural applications integrated with ADABAS.
* Maintain detailed documentation for configurations, processes, and recovery procedures.
What You'll Need
* Hands‑on experience with ADABAS / ADBAS administration.
* Strong experience supporting databases on z/OS mainframe environments.
* Working experience with UNIX/Linux operating systems and administration tools.
* Proficiency in Natural programming is advantageous but not essential.
* Knowledge of ADABAS utilities (e.g., ADAULD, ADACMP, ADASAV, etc.).
* Familiarity with job scheduling tools (e.g., Control‑M, CA‑7).
* Solid understanding of JCL and batch job operations in large-scale systems.
* Strong grounding in data security, integrity, and backup/recovery methodologies.
* Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
* Australian Citizenship with ability to obtain a Baseline security clearance.
