Overview
VMG Hire & Sales is a local hire and sales company specialising in the hire and sale of shipping containers, portable buildings and toilets. We are now seeking a proactive, hands-on individual to join our team.
This position suits someone who enjoys physical, varied work and takes pride in keeping a yard running smoothly. The Yard Hand / Yard All‐Rounder supports day‐to‐day operations across the depot, including preparing transportable buildings and portable toilets for hire, maintaining yard presentation, assisting with loading/unloading, and supporting the operations team as needed.
Responsibilities
* General yard maintenance: keeping the yard clean, organised, and safe.
* Loading and unloading containers and buildings: using a forklift and manual handling where required.
* Building preparation: cleaning, packing, minor repairs and ensuring units are ready for dispatch.
* Inspect equipment for damage and promptly report to the supervisor.
* Supporting transport operations: guiding drivers, helping with vehicle movements, and preparing loads.
* Stock control and inventory tasks: checking equipment in/out and maintaining accurate records.
* Basic maintenance duties: using hand tools, completing minor repairs, and reporting issues.
* Following safety procedures: ensuring compliance with company and site safety requirements.
Qualifications / What we are looking for
* Proactive, hands‐on worker who enjoys variety
* Someone who takes pride in maintaining an organised yard
* Physically capable of manual tasks involved in loading, unloading and equipment preparation
* Positive attitude and willingness to learn
* Team player who can also work independently when required
* Willing to pitch in with yard cleanliness and general yard maintenance as required
* Capable of completing tasks within the set deadlines
* C Class Driver's Licence
* Experience in a yard, construction, or hire environment (preferred but not essential)
* Ability to perform manual labour and work in outdoor conditions
* Ability to pass a pre-employment medical including Drug & Alcohol test
