Ports North is responsible for the development and
management of port facilities vital to the economic growth of Cairns and
regional centres in Far North Queensland. Ports North has extensive property,
marina, tourism and cargo facilities in Cairns and across nine regional and
remote ports.
About the role
Ports North is seeking a highly motivated Executive to lead
our Corporate Services Division. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive
Officer, the General Manager Corporate Services provides strategic leadership
across human resources, communications, public and government relations and
corporate reporting. This role is integral to shaping organisational culture, strengthening
workforce capability and ensuring the effective delivery of high-quality
corporate services that support Ports North's strategic objectives.
As a key member of the Executive Leadership Team, the
General Manager Corporate Services will provide advice to the CEO, Executive
team and and senior managers, lead a multidisciplinary team, and ensure that
corporate services functions operate with the highest levels of integrity,
compliance and professionalism. The role will also lead, and represent Ports North,
with government, industry and community stakeholders, building strong
relationships and supporting effective engagement on behalf of the
organisation.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide strategic leadership of Corporate Services,
including human resources, communications, stakeholder engagement and
government relations.
• Develop and implement contemporary people and culture strategies to support a
productive, engaged and high-performing workforce.
• Lead Enterprise Agreement strategy development, negotiations and
implementation.
• Oversee advice on HR policies, organisational development and enterprise
agreement provisions.
• Oversee the payroll function to ensure accurate and compliant application of
industrial instruments.
• Manage corporate communications, media, public relations, sponsorships and
corporate events.
• Strengthen external affairs and government relationships, representing Ports
North at industry, government and community forums.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, regulatory requirements and
government policies.
• Oversee the delivery of effective administration systems supporting public
enquiries, complaints handling and information release.
• Promote a strong safety culture and support effective environmental and risk
management practices.
• Contribute to organisational strategy, business planning and the development
of corporate priorities.
Skills and Experience Required
• Proven senior leadership experience within a corporate
services or similar executive environment.
• Strong capability in people and culture leadership, including strategic
workforce planning and organisational development.
• Strong understanding of industrial relations frameworks and application of
contemporary HR practices.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with confidence
engaging at executive, government and community levels.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and develop high-performing teams.
• Strong analytical, strategic and commercial judgement.
• High level of professionalism, discretion and integrity.
• Commitment to fostering a safe, inclusive and positive workplace culture.
