The Role Provide clinical leadership, advice, consultation, liaison and support to health care professionals, other providers and agencies, and to carers and consumers throughout the Midwest Mental Health Service region. Examine, assess, diagnose and treat patients referred to the Midwest MH&CADS. Promote the organisational culture and principles of person‑centred, trauma informed and recovery focussed service delivery. Provide education for and supervise registrars and medical students.
The Hospital The facility is a 100‑bed hospital, currently undergoing redevelopment including significant expansion of the emergency department and provision for an Integrated Mental Health Unit and Intensive Care/High Dependency Unit. It is a referral centre for the entire region with a very busy Emergency Department and Medical Department.
Requirements Applicants must be registered (or eligible for registration) as a specialist with the Medical Board of Australia and be a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP) or equivalent as an overseas trained specialist who has completed their training in either the UK, Ireland, Canada, USA (ABPN certified) or New Zealand.
Medical Board of Australia Pathway The Medical Board of Australia implemented a new expedited pathway to specialist registration in December 2024, eliminating the need for a specialist assessment with a specialist medical college for those with an accepted qualification in Psychiatry. The only accepted qualifications are MRCPsych and a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) after 2007. The standard Specialist Pathway or the Accelerated Pathway are still available to those who aren’t eligible for the Expedited specialist pathway.
