Offer description

We’re looking for a Youth Peer Worker to champion young people’s voices in Warrnambool and Portland, helping them shape services, programs, and opportunities that matter to them.

Employee benefits

- Awesome Not-for-Profit Salary Sacrificing of up to $15,899 per FBT year
- Portable Long Service Leave (from eligible organisations)
- Excellent learning & development opportunities
- Above Award Salary – minimum $68,442.47
- Confidential Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for personal and professional wellbeing
- 11 Wellbeing Days to support worker wellbeing (pro-rata for part-time employees), in addition to Annual Leave

About the role:

At Brophy alongside with headspace, we believe in the power of young people to shape the services that support them. As our Youth Peer Worker (Warrnambool & Portland), you’ll use your lived experience, creativity, and passion to strengthen youth voice and bring fresh ideas to life.

This is a fixed-term position (0.2 EFT), perfect for someone looking to make a meaningful contribution while balancing other commitments.

In this role, you’ll be helping to design, plan, and facilitate youth groups, workshops, consultations, and events that truly connect with young people. You’ll contribute your perspective to the development of program materials, making sure they are meaningful and effective for a youth audience. A key part of your role will be supporting young people to participate safely and confidently in meetings, projects, and workshops, while encouraging their engagement with headspace and other programs in a way that values the shared experience of peers.

You’ll also bring a youth lens into spaces such as project groups, recruitment processes, and training, helping to strengthen co-design and ensure young people are central to shaping how we work. Along the way, you’ll document outcomes, debrief with teams, and uphold professional standards, including co-design principles, Child Protected Standards, and the Code of Ethical Practice in Youth Work (with full training provided).

You’ll be part of a passionate, supportive team that values creativity, collaboration, and authenticity. Training and guidance will be provided, but your biggest strength will be you! your lived experience, your perspective, and your commitment to making a difference for other young people.

Together, we’ll continue to build a culture where young people are not just heard, but are central to shaping services, programs, and communities.

Do your skills include...

- Experience or knowledge of peer work/youth participation principles/frameworks
- Experience in designing and facilitating groups or workshops with young people.
- Experience working on a youth participation project with other young people. For example, leading or being part of a consultation or co-design project.
- Demonstrated understanding of appropriate behaviours when working with diverse young people, and commitment to Victorian Child Safe Standards, and the youth sectors Code of Ethical Practice.
- Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with peers and others such as colleagues, teachers or community leaders.
- Lived or learned experience of youth cohorts who often face marginalisation (including but not limited to, disabled, Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander, rural and regional, LGBTIQA+, multicultural, OOH care and youth justice young people).

Qualifications / Credentials:

- Holding, or currently working towards, a Diploma of Community Services is highly regarded
