About the Role
The Galnya Yarka Case Practitioner supports Aboriginal children, young people, and families through culturally safe, strengths-based practice. Drawing on cultural knowledge, lived experience, and strong community connections, the role promotes family wellbeing and the cultural identity and safety of Aboriginal children and young people.
The position involves day-to-day casework to help families understand and address the issues leading to Child Protection involvement, while ensuring children and young people's voices remain central to decision-making. This includes building trusting relationships with families and carers, working collaboratively with support services, and maintaining strong cultural, family, and community connections.
The role supports the development and implementation of Cultural Support Plans, assists families toward reunification wherever possible, and promotes stability and wellbeing when reunification cannot be achieved. The position requires an understanding of child development, wellbeing needs, and the impacts of intergenerational trauma, applied through Aboriginal ways of working.
Through culturally grounded practice, the role contributes to positive and sustainable outcomes for Aboriginal children and young people while upholding the values of Rumbalara Aboriginal Co-operative.
About You - Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills:
Qualifications and Registrations
* Cert IV or Diploma in Community Services or related fields or
* A willingness to work towards relevant qualifications (with support from the organisation) over time.
Applicants who may not hold formal qualifications but bring strong lived experience, cultural knowledge, and a genuine commitment to the role are strongly encouraged to apply. Rumbalara values lived experience and provides on-the-job training and development opportunities.
Knowledge and Skills
* Strong understanding of Aboriginal culture, community, and the impacts of colonisation, intergenerational trauma, and the Stolen Generations on children, young people, and families.
* Lived experience working with Aboriginal families or communities, with the ability to engage in culturally respectful and safe ways.
* Commitment to learning, professional development, and ongoing skill development, including formal and informal training.
* Well-developed communication skills and the ability to build trusting relationships with children, young people, families, carers, and community members.
* Ability to work collaboratively with Child Protection, courts, and community agencies while prioritising cultural safety.
* Strong advocacy skills and a genuine passion for supporting the rights, wellbeing, and empowerment of Aboriginal children, young people, and families.
* Sound organisational and time-management skills, with a willingness to learn case management systems and documentation requirements.

* Competitive pay and conditions based on the SCHADS Award – Level 3 PP1 to Level 4 PP1 based on experience and qualifications.
