We have an exciting position for an Agricultural Consultant. Reporting to the Operations Manager, this role is responsible for overseeing the day to day field assessments, data collection and analysis to provide practical recommendations to Farm Managers and orchard teams to manage risks.
It is essential in optimising sustainable tree growth and production of the Orchard by maintaining effective water management based on crop requirements.
Your key responsibilities will include:
* Collect and analyse results to identify constraints to yield and quality and provide recommendations based on quality indicators to identify areas to improve production
* Maintain accurate records and present findings and recommendations to management
* Advise Farmers and Farm Managers on techniques to improve production, fruit quality, and pack-out, including alternative options where current practices are not optimal.
* Provide recommendations on orchard nutrition, irrigation strategy, canopy management, root-zone management, and crop load management aligned to seasonal conditions.
* Develop practical, site-specific programs (action plans) with defined timelines, responsibilities, and measurable targets.
* Study environmental and operational factors affecting crop growth and production (e.g., weather patterns, microclimates, frost risk, heat stress, water availability, soil moisture dynamics).
* Evaluate the effects of cultivation techniques, soil conditions, insects, and diseases on production outcomes and recommend improvements.
* Provide guidance to manage erosion risk, soil structure, biodiversity considerations, and sustainable resource use
The successful candidate will possess the following skills, attributes and experience:
* Demonstrated knowledge of the agricultural industry with an understanding of seasonal timings and general requirements of rural producers
* Tertiary qualification in Agronomy, Agricultural Science, Horticulture Science or related discipline (or equivalent industry experience).
* Demonstrated 3 years experience in orchard operations and/or horticultural consulting (tree crops preferred).
* Practical knowledge of crop protection (pests, weeds, disease) and orchard nutrition/irrigation principles.
* Proven experience interpreting reports and translating findings into practical actions.
