The Opportunity
Our client, a major federal government organisation, is seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer / Batch Manager to support the reliable and timely execution of core system batch processing.
This role plays a critical part in maintaining system schedules, supporting scripts, and ensuring that overnight and bulk processing runs smoothly to enable essential business operations.
The Role
Working under limited direction, you will provide technical leadership across batch scheduling, mainframe development and support activities. You will contribute to software design, development and maintenance, while also providing after‐hours support for critical batch runs.
This is a full‐time role (40 hours per week) based in ACT, QLD, VIC, SA or TAS (capital cities only).
Key Responsibilities
* Analyse, design, develop, test and maintain software solutions
* Maintain and manage system schedules and batch processing workflows
* Provide technical support to development teams and senior stakeholders
* Define software and technical designs for complex solutions
* Ensure quality, reliability and compliance with development standards
* Support go‐live activities and ongoing system maintenance
* Troubleshoot and resolve batch processing issues, including after hours
* Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure effective delivery outcomes
* Develop technical documentation and progress reports
* Maintain current knowledge of ICT policies, tools and processes
What You'll Need
Essential
* Substantial hands‐on experience in mainframe batch management
* Experience with IBM mainframe environments and associated tools
* IBM Work Scheduler for z/OS (OPC)
* Strong skills in JCL, COBOL, Broadcom Gen or similar
* Database experience with DB2 / SQL (SPUFI, OPTIM)
* Strong troubleshooting skills, including after‐hours support
* Ability to obtain Baseline Security Clearance
