Strategic Category Specialist - Mining Contractor - New Role
Brand new role to set up Strategic Category Management for this mid tier mining services company.
This company is going from strength to strength and winning new long term contacts with major mining clients.
They have a small team of transactional procurement professionals and now have an innovative Procurement manager who is looking for a 2IC to assist in setting and developing their Category Management strategies. You will use your procurement knowledge to deliver value for money through the implementation of best practice procurement governance and contracting processes.
**Duties**:
- Act as an SME to the business - providing expertise in sourcing, trends and communicate supply chain constraints or advantages vertically
- Creating and developing a strategic long term plan for the development of the category / categories
- Building and driving relationships with key vendors to improve pricing and quality of services
- Promote positive attitude and lateral thinking to supply team and wider business in terms of creative solution
- Support internal customers in the development of complex specifications and ensure goods and services are delivered according to contract
- Negotiate and challenge vendors on behaviour and nature of goods provided if not to company standards
- Hold quarterly review meetings with local vendors to analyse spend and ensure vendor is meeting expectations and KPIs.
Selection Criteria:
- Experience in category management, contract management and strategic sourcing experience
- Ability to manage complex customer and supplier issues, including the ability to resolve supplier performance issues
- Experience in implementing contract and supplier management strategies and techniques, including strong negotiation skills and ability to successfully manage tender evaluation processes.
