AIR6500 is the RAAF's $3 billion program to develop a joint air battle management system that builds on the capabilities offered by Next Generation sensor and command and control systems. AIR6500 will create a fully networked 'system of systems' that synchronises air and missile defence operations in joint and coalition environments, maximising situational awareness and enhancing the speed of decision making across the battlespace.
We're seeking an experienced Systems Administrator (Linux-focused) to join a high-performing infrastructure team supporting complex enterprise ICT environments on the AIR 6500 Program.
This role is ideal for Linux professional with Defence or regulated industry who thrives in secure, mission-critical environments and enjoys working across physical, virtualised, and containerised platforms. You will play a key role in delivering resilient, secure, and high-performing Linux-based infrastructure solutions.
You will support and maintain Linux systems (primarily RHEL) across physical and virtualised environments, contributing to secure and resilient infrastructure.
Some key responsibilities include:
* End-to-end lifecycle of Linux operating systems (primarily RHEL), including installation, configuration, patching, hardening, monitoring, and troubleshooting with ISM and Defence standards
* Implement and maintain secure system baselines in line with industry best practices and security frameworks
* Administer and support physical and virtualised infrastructure platforms (VMware, KVM, Hyper‐V)
* Using enterprise tools like Ansible, Red Hat Satellite, AD/IDM, vCenter, Cisco UCS
* Support and troubleshoot containerised workloads (Docker, Kubernetes)
* Monitor system performance, capacity, and availability using enterprise monitoring tools
* Administer backup and disaster recovery systems
* Support configuration management and change management processes
* Create and maintain detailed technical documentation
* Working in an Agile / Kanban delivery model that's pragmatic, not dogmatic
About You:
* Experience in Linux / infrastructure roles and Red Hat certification (RHCSA / RHCE or equivalent)
* Solid experience with Ansible, Satellite and working knowledge of Containers and Kubernetes
* Troubleshooting skills across complex environments
* Experience with configuration and change management
* Background in Defence or highly regulated environments
* Exposure to DevOps / DevSecOps and CI/CD are highly desirable
