About Our Community-Based Counselling Initiative
We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Aboriginal Counsellor to join our team in providing community-based specialist treatment services for young people who have engaged in harmful sexual behaviors.
This initiative is part of our broader commitment to promoting the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal communities through culturally safe and effective interventions.
About the Role
As an Aboriginal Counsellor, you will play a vital role in bridging cultural connections, advocating for patients, and delivering culturally safe health services across rural communities. You will work closely with local service providers to engage with Aboriginal communities and provide direct counselling to identified clients.
Key Responsibilities
* Collaborate with local service providers to develop programs for engaging with Aboriginal communities.
* Provide direct counselling to identified New Street clients.
* Undertake community development and capacity building with local Aboriginal communities.
Selection Criteria
* You must be of Aboriginal descent through parentage or identification as being Aboriginal and accepted in the community as such.
* You hold tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Counselling, or Community Welfare, or other equivalent qualifications.
* You have demonstrated ability to provide counselling services to individuals and families in the context of child sexual assault, trauma, violence, and abuse.
* You are accredited or willing to undertake accreditation with the Harmful Sexual Behaviours Counsellor Accreditation Scheme administered by the NSW Children's Guardian.
